Isabel Castro -
From a very young age Isabel participated in art workshops. At the age of 11, she started her studies in painting at the Paulita Concepcion Vocational School of Arts in Havana, Cuba. During her youth she participated in different events and exhibits. She arrived to Miami in 1999 and she started a new life with her husband.
She rediscovered her passion for arts and joined The Cove/Rincon International Organization in 2019, an organization that focuses in the promotion of literature and art in general. As a member of this organization she has exhibited her work in different events at Florida International University (FIU) and in spring 2020 one of her works won first place among many international participants in a contest. This award gave her the opportunity to have her work on the cover of the book During Sharing. Then she participated in a project about the Holocaust called Project Holocaust Never Again! Creating Awareness in which, once again, she was awarded the cover of the book in the mentioned project. Many of her artworks have been published in the magazine of The Cove/Rincon. She was also chosen to participate in an art contest in Pembrole Pines, Virtual 16th Annual Art Competition 2020.
At the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of The Cove/Rincon International Organization called “More than a Quarter of a Century Promoting Culture” on September 2021, she won first place in visual arts with the painting “Reviviendo en el tiempo”. At this time her painting was selected for the cover of the Anthology of this event. This Anniversary took place at different locations, the first being at Florida International University, the second one at New Professions Technical Institute (NPTI) and the last one at Urbe University. In 2021, Isabel participated in Spot for Art Virtual Gallery, created in support of the disabled with the intention of having their artwork displayed within the community.
Isabel also has participated in the City of Pembroke Pines Virtual 17th Annual Art Competition in 2022 where she was selected as one of the finalists. Her artwork has also been selected by many local writers for the cover of their books, including a children’s book. Many of her artworks were displayed in group shows at FIU, New Professions Technical Institute, URBE University and at Miami Dade Library on August 20, 2022. Her work was also exhibited in local art galleries such as Optimus Art Gallery.
In 2023, her work was exhibited at PIAG Museum in the city of Coral Gables. This same year she became part of The Cove Rincon’s Board of Directors.
Her artwork displays bright colors in a unique and surreal style.
